History
Mountain
Peoples Health Clinic was organized in 1974 when the residents of Scott County,
Morgan, and Campbell counties became concerned about the access of Health Care
for all people including those without insurance, on a low income basis. Three
of the clinics were established in each of the three counties-The Area Health
Center in the Norma Community of Scott County. The Petros Health Center Morgan
County, and the Stoney Fork Health Center in Campbell County through community
fund raising from pie suppers, quilts sales, etc.and subsidized with 330 Federal
Grant Funds. The clinics were staffed with National Health Service Corp Family
Physicians and Nurse Practioners.
Today
-30 years later, MPHC continues to operate (5) Rural Health Clinics (all in
Scott County)-The Area Health Center in Norma the Highland Health Center in
Elgin, The Huntsville Primary Care center in Huntsville, The Mountain Peoples
Oneida Clinic in Oneida, and the Winfield Medical Center in Winfield. Also
we have a New Telemedicine Program, one Business office in Oneida, and Administration
Office in Huntsville. The MPHC providers provide medical care to all residents
of Scott County and surrounding counties-whether there medical care is covered
by Medicare, Tenncare, Private insurance-or no insurance at all. No patient
is denied medical care because of inability to pay.
